Fall is here!
The third annual St. Clair Yard Sale is set for Saturday, December 3, 8 a.m. – noon. All St. Clair residents
are invited to participate on their own property. Please email your interest in participating to
[email protected]. We will advertise the sale in newspapers, neighborhood websites, and with
promotional posters. On the day of the sale, a map with participating addresses will be distributed to
shoppers as they arrive.
Our Halloween display will be inflated all day and night this year, thanks to the electrical system at the
entrance being brought up to code. Plans are to install the display on Friday or Saturday prior to
Halloween, on Monday.
Our St. Clair Homeowners Association annual member meeting will be held on Sunday, November 13 at
2 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica. Directional signs will be posted.
Please note that your 2022 dues ($125) need to be current in order for you to vote at the meeting.
Proposed 2023 dues will be presented and voted on. 2023 dues are proposed to remain at $125. If the
2023 dues are approved, you may pay at the meeting. This year we are offering two St. Clair car window
stickers per household to those paying dues, to encourage membership and to raise awareness of St.
Clair on the island.
A fall Cider Drop-in get-together after the yard sale has been proposed, at a TBD location. Non-alcoholic
beverages will be provided. You may be asked to bring your favorite hors d’oevre or dessert. Please
email [email protected] to let us know if you’ll be coming and what you will bring.
WE WANT TO HAVE DUES COLLECTION COMPLETED BY THE END OF JANUARY. PLEASE HELP US MEET
THIS GOAL BY EITHER BRINGING YOUR CHECK TO THE MEETING OR SENDING IT BY THE END OF
JANUARY.
Thanks for your cooperation.
All the best,
Bill Tipton
SCHA President
Special update:
If you heard sirens in the neighborhood on Friday night, July 29, it was because the fire department came to put out a fire in the garage behind Glenn and Brenda Brazil’s home at 127 St. Clair Drive. While the Brazils and their house are OK, they lost the garage and its contents, including the 1934 MG that Glenn had just finished restoring. Brenda says there’s nothing anyone can do to help, although she appreciates the thought.
“In the good ol’ summertime…” and it has been a good summer in St. Clair! Among other things, we have said good-bye to some old friends, and welcome these new neighbors/property owners:
Here are just a few notes and dates for you to put on your calendar:
The SCHA Board is meeting quarterly now, so our next meeting is October 16. Have you considered serving on the Board? We are always looking for interested new members, and the time commitment is not burdensome. Reach out to me if you are interested or have questions. Following recent moves by Donna and Dalton Tate as well as Steve and Amy Bradley, Mark Semmelmayer has replaced Steve on the board, and Jennifer Smith has replaced Donna.
The SCHA Annual Meeting is slated for November 13 at 3 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica. More details to come!
We plan to have the Neighborhood yard sale again this December — put it on your calendar for December 3, 8 to noon. We will run it much like last year — everyone can collect their own money. More to come about that.
Reminder for the Short Term Rental Hotlline –
The message below from the Glynn County Public Information Officer has been posted on Nextdoor, regarding what to do if you have a complaint about a short term rental in St. Clair. So far, there has been one that we are aware of, in an AirB&B home. Here’s the county’s post:
If you have a complaint on a short term rental property in your neighborhood, you can call our 24-hour hotline at 912-525-5455 or fill out an online complaint form (https://glynncounty.org/str). The hotline will document the complaint and contact the Local Contact Person to help resolve the concern. If the complaint is not resolved within a few hours of being notified the short term rental may be issued a violation.
Do not let the hotline be a replacement for calling the Glynn County Police non-emergency phone number, (912) 554-3645, for complaints such as noise and other disturbances, or if immediate safety concerns are present. Please do not use the hotline as an alternative to 911 for emergencies seen or encountered.
And finally, in order to identify neighbors and to engender a feeling of community as we go about our work and activities on the island, we have created small and tasteful vehicle window decals, with two decals for each dues-paying household. These will be distributed upon receipt of 2023 dues (they remain at $125), and will be due by February 23 of next year. (If you have extra vehicles, contact me and we will satisfy those needs.)
Hope you have a wonderful rest-of-the summer. And don’t forget to start thinking about what you’d like to put into your yard sale!
