Update from Bill

Whether you’ve lived here for decades, as many of us have, or are newcomers to St. Clair, most of your neighbors are members of the St. Clair Homeowners Association.  Many of them contribute ideas, time and talent to the continued betterment of the neighborhood.  If you are a resident and have not yet joined, SCHA, we invite you to do so.  Voluntary annual dues of $125 go toward upkeep and improvements for the neighborhood.

Here’s a quick look at some of the recent goings-on, spearheaded by the SCHA Board with lots of input from neighbors and funded by Association dues.

Most recently, this new website was created and launched, thanks to the efforts of several SCHA Board members.

After several decades of wear, the ironwork, signage, tabby columns, electrical and irrigation systems needed refurbishing.  So –

  • Golden Isles Ironworks – a local firm which handles a lot of this type of work for the Port of Jacksonville – replaced missing iron pieces and metal supports of the entrance gates.  The entrance features are believed to have been installed when our neighborhood was created in the late 1960s, and were designed by Sea Island Landscape Architect the late Miesse (Bummy) Baumgardner along with the Parkway.
  • In addition to power washing the tabby segments, local painters and decorators D&D Decorating removed the large St. Clair sign, sanded, repaired, repainted, and rehung it for us.
  • Lighting of the tabby columns was added to enhance nighttime entrance visibility.
  • Steve Bradley, a St. Clair resident and owner of Black Dog Irrigation, upgraded and continues to monitor the irrigation system for the Parkway, along with improving the water supply for the system.
  • Keith O’Sullivan, an individual local landscape maintenance professional, took over the general care of the Parkway.  Keith’s role includes cutting, trimming, mulching, controlling weeds and insects.  He’s been doing a great job!

Up next:  Residents are looking forward to the second annual meeting in November, a Neighborhood Yard Sale, and a potluck dinner later this year.

If you’re a resident of St. Clair, but have not yet joined the St. Clair Homeowners Association, we invite you to do so.  Voluntary annual dues of $125 go toward upkeep and improvements for the neighborhood.

All the best,

Bill Tipton
